TAMPA, Fla.—Stetson’s Tyler Bocock had three hits and scored twice but USF took control of a close game with six runs in the fifth inning as the Bulls downed the Hatters 10-3, Tuesday at USF Baseball Stadium.

The Bulls (21-15) banged out 15 hits against seven Stetson pitchers. The Hatters (14-24) nearly matched the Bulls with 11 hits, but also left 13 runners on base. Stetson had at least one base runner in each inning.

USF started the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Josh Powers (2-4), pitching for the first time since March 22, surrendered an RBI groundout to Luke Maglich and a run-scoring double to Daniel Portales to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

Stetson battled back in the top of the second, cutting USF’s lead in half. Kyle Pitts singled with one out and Kyle Zech followed with a double, moving Pitts to third base. After a groundout by Mike Fernland, Pitts scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

The Bulls got the run back in the bottom of the second when reliever Adam Schaly loaded the bases with two outs and uncorked a wild pitch to make it 3-1.

Maglich added another run for the Bulls in the bottom of the fourth when his sacrifice fly scored Kyle Teaf to make it 4-1.

The Hatters again matched USF in the top of the fifth. Tyler Bocock hit a one-out double and Patrick Mazeika followed with an infield single. Powers followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Bocock to make it 4-2.

USF took control of the game in the fifth inning, sending 11 batters the plate and scoring six runs against three Hatter pitchers. When the dust settled the Bulls owned a 10-2 lead.

Stetson tacked on its final run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Pitts.

USF’s Brandon Lawson (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Mazeika, Pitts and Zech each had two hits for the Hatters.

Stetson returns to the diamond when the Hatters open a three game Atlantic Sun Conference series with league-leading Lipscomb, beginning 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at Melching Field.
