Stetson University Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote announced the addition of Cari Berry to the Hatters’ women’s tennis roster on Friday afternoon. The Bradenton, Florida native will join the Stetson squad for the 2014 spring season.
Born in Medellin, Colombia, Berry played her high school tennis at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, where she won the 2012 Florida 3A Singles Title. Berry also teamed with Ashley Bongart to win the state doubles title and finished the year undefeated.
Ranked as high as 71st in the nation, 21st in the region, and eighth in Florida, Berry spent last season playing at State College of Florida. There she was ranked 30th in the nation and was a member of the sixth ranked doubles team by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
“Cari is a great addition to our tennis family,” Pilote said. “The experience that she gained playing last year at State College of Florida under Coach Nagelson McCormack will be extremely valuable. It will certainly help Cari transition to Division I tennis.”
Coach McCormack won 25 career doubles titles on the WTA Tour and Virginia Slim circuit, which included two Grand Slams. “Cari learned from one of the best,” Pilote added.
Berry, entering as a sophomore in January 2014, will become the fifth addition to the Stetson squad for this spring’s official season. The Hatters will get things started this fall at the College of Charleston Invitational September 20-22.
