CHARLESTON, S.C. – Three Hatters won a singles match, as the Stetson women’s tennis team competed in day one action at the College of Charleston Invitational.
Sophomore Eveline Lepinay was the lone Stetson player to win her first round match on Friday, defeating Hamilton Lovett of UNC Wilmington by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in the A2 bracket. Lepinay dropped her second match, and will play in the consolation on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
After losing her first round matchup in three sets in the A2 bracket, senior Lindsey Cable topped Dominique deWitt of Coastal Carolina by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 11-9. Freshman Marta Gonzalez, competing in the same bracket, lost her first match before earning a bye to a Saturday contest against College of Charleston’s Jenny Falcone at 1:30 p.m.
Senior MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell also won on Friday, earning a victory in her second match of the day due to the retirement of College of Charleston’s Jamie Harrell. Stauffer-MacDowell lost her first match, and is now scheduled to play Sarah Stein of Davidson at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in the B1 bracket.
Sophomore Andrea Crespo, senior Diana Bukajeva, and freshman Isabella Fernandez each lost their matches in the A1 bracket, while sophomore Alexandra Lyubimova lost her contests in the B1 bracket on Friday.
“Although overall we played a high level of tennis today, we are all a little disappointed with the outcomes of some of the matches,” Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. “Tomorrow we will start with two rounds of doubles, and the teams are looking forward to playing different opponents.”
