DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over visiting Eastern Kentucky (7-5) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Monday. Four Hatters were double winners on the day with only a third-set tiebreaker preventing a clean sweep for the home team.
The Hatters began their morning with doubles wins from the following pairings: Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay)/Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) on Court 1, MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Asheville, N.C.)/Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas) on Court 2 and Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.)/Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) on Court 3 to take a 1-0 lead.
As action shifted to singles, de los Santos, Purushotham, Cable and Stauffer-MacDowell polished off their EKU opponents in two sets each, as did sophomore Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.). Saioa Oscoz got the only point of the match for the Colonels in a long tiebreaker over Sullivan.
