DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team ran its dual match record to 9-1 on the season with a hardfought 4-3 victory over visiting Penn (5-6) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Tuesday.  Senior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) earned the clinching point in the final match of the day with a three-set victory on Court 2.

The Hatters trailed 3-2 in the match when freshman MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Asheville, N.C.) and Purushotham pulled off third-set victories over Daniela DePaoli and Alexa Ely, respectively.  Purushotham won 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 while Stauffer-MacDowell rebounded from DePaoli's hot start to dominate the last two sets and win 1-6, 6-1, 6-0.  Other singles winners for the Hatters were freshman Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.), who beat Emma Whitfield 6-1, 7-6 on Court 6 and junior Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.), who won via retirement.  Cable has won six straight singles matches and is 9-1 on the season.
