DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team (16-5) dropped its regular season finale by a 4-3 score to visiting UCF (10-7) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Saturday. Freshman Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) won in singles and doubles for the Hatters.
Cable teamed with junior Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) for an 8-5 win over Taylor Dubins and Andrea Yacaman on Court 3 that helped Stetson obtain the doubles point. Sophomore Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) and senior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) edged Courtney Griffith and Genevieve Lorbergs 9-7 on Court 1 to put the Hatters ahead 1-0.
In singles play, Purushotham had to retire in the first set of her match, tying the score 1-1; the Knights managed wins in three of the remaining five singles matches to take home the victory. Cable won a third-set tiebreaker and freshman Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas) won in straight sets for the two Stetson singles points.
