DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team (11-2, 4-1 Atlantic Sun) improved to 8-0 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center this season with a 7-0 win over visiting Jacksonville (4-10, 1-3 A-Sun) Thursday evening. Five Hatters were double winners on the day, including sophomores Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.), who won her singles match without losing a game, and Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia) who won her 10th consecutive singles match.

The Hatters won all three doubles matches to get out to a 1-0 early lead. Cable and senior Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) beat Gabriela Bartos and Veronique Spencer 8-4 on Court 3, which was followed by an 8-5 win for Bukajeva and junior Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) on Court 2 over Djessika Bezerra and Harjit Gosal. Junior Sara Lazarevic (Calgary, Alta.) and sophomore MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Asheville, N.C.) finished off the doubles sweep by defeating Natalia Melibeu and Aline Staudt 8-5 at the top of the lineup.

Stetson closed out the Dolphins with relative ease in singles action, getting three quick wins from the back half of the lineup. Cable pitched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout on Court 5 against Virginia Iwinski while Miller also put up a perfect set in a 6-3, 6-0 Court 6 victory over Gosal. Bukajeva then put the clinching point on the scoreboard for the Hatters, beating Bezerra 6-1, 6-3 on Court 4 to make the score 4-0.

Junior Clarke Tatje (Eustis, Fla.) and Lazarevic continued the trend of straight set Stetson winners, respectively knocking off Bartos 6-2, 6-2 on Court 3 and Staudt 6-4, 6-3 on Court 1. Gunning had to work hard to preserve the shutout, rallying from a set down to win a third set-replacing tiebreaker and beat Melibeu 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 on Court 2.

"This was by far the most impressive win of the season for our team," Stetson Associate Head Coach Chastity Bradley said afterwards. "We came out with the goal of taking the doubles point and taking the early momentum. Our players did just that and played very aggressive doubles. The fight and determination was some of the best I've seen all year in our singles matches. I couldn't be prouder of our effort and level of play today."

The Hatters, who have won via shutout five times in their last seven matches, will now turn their attention to the stiff challenge of hosting Atlantic Sun-leading North Florida at 10:00 am Saturday. Live Scoring for that match will be available at
