The Stetson women’s tennis team will take the short drive east to Daytona Beach this Sunday to play in a match against Embry-Riddle. The Hatters (2-1) are fresh off of last weekend’s win over Florida International, their first in program history against the Panthers.
“Although the team was obviously very happy to pull off the significant win against FIU, each member of the squad understands that we must play better going forward,” said Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote. “Our schedule only gets stronger and we will have to play our best to continue our progression.”
Sunday was Stetson’s first match in nearly three weeks, following back-to-back cancellations due to weather. Embry-Riddle enters the weekend with an even 1-1 record, having also experienced weather issues, as its match against Rollins College was suspended due to rain this past Wednesday.
“We will face a very strong program in Embry-Riddle on Sunday and they are once again among the best in the nation in a division known to have strong tennis programs,” Pilote said. “We will have to start strong in doubles because we will be playing the nine-point format, where all doubles count for one point, just like the singles.”
Stetson has won six straight double matches, dating back to its win over Florida A&M, Jan. 19 in Tallahassee.
Sunday’s match will get underway at 12:00 p.m. inside the Crotty Tennis Complex. Live results will be available via ERAUAthletics.com HERE.
