DeLAND—Incoming Stetson freshman Alizee Michaud enjoyed a strong showing at last weekend’s ITA Summer Circuit event in Gainesville. Michaud is part of Stetson head coach Pierre Pilote’s nationally ranked recruiting class.

Michaud, who graduated from Orlando’s Dr. Phillips High School last spring, would have faced University of Miami junior Clementina Riobueno, but Michaud was forced to withdraw from the tournament after her 3-6, 6-2 (12-10) win over University of Florida sophomore Kourtney Keegan. Keegan finished the 2014 collegiate season ranked No. 71 by the ITA.

On her way to reaching the finals, Michaud also knocked off University of Alabama junior Natalia Maynetto (1-6, 6-2 [4]) in the quarterfinals. Maynetto was 14-3 last season for a Crimson Tide squad which finished the year ranked No. 6 nationally.

“It is promising to see Alizee going head to head with some of the best players in the nation and doing so well,” said Pilote. “She showed a lot of resolve by figuring out ways to defeat more experienced opponents”.

Michaud is currently ranked as the No. 14 incoming freshman in the country by, which also ranks her as the No. 2 player in Florida. Michaud, along with fellow incoming freshmen Ashley Dean and Arijana Korach, comprise the No. 4 mid-major recruiting class in the country.

The ITA Summer Circuit is made up of nine regional circuits (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Texas, Northern California and Southern California) consisting of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind., in August.
