The Hatters were oh-so-close. Then they were oh-so-very-close.

Needing one more win to clinch a spot in the Atlantic Sun tournament, the Stetson University volleyball team dropped back-to-back five-set nailbitters against ETSU and UNF this past week.

The Hatters (18-12, 8-7 A-Sun) hope the third time is the charm as they visit Florida Gulf Coast (12-16, 8-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fort Myers. Live video will be available on ASun.TV.

"This is their time and their chance, and they only get a few of them," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said.

Freshman Tiffany Creamer has been as hot as a firecracker, posting a combined 45 kills over the past two matches. She collected a 22 kills and hit .373 against ETSU, then put down a season-high 23 kills and hit .339 at UNF.

"She has really improved the whole season," Loesch said about Creamer. "She has just stepped up her game all the way around. Her attacking, her passing, and her serve have all developed. She is also becoming more of a leader and being more vocal on the court. She is still a freshman and is just going to keep getting better."

Live stats of Saturday's match will also be available via FGCU and statbroadcast.

Notes: FGCU is looking to secure a postseason berth on Saturday as well ... Stetson could also clinch this weekend with two losses by either UNF or Kennesaw State.  Those teams play each other on Friday.
