Harrisonburg, Va. - The James Madison University Classic wrapped up on Saturday for the Stetson volleyball team (0-3), which fell 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 to Davidson and 23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 to UNC Asheville at Sinclair Gymnasium.  Freshman outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) finished with 20 kills combined on the day while she and three other Hatters posted career high dig totals in the UNCA match.  For her efforts this weekend, Melville was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Melville had 11 kills and hit .391 with seven digs for the Hatters in the morning match against Davidson, where sophomore setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) contributed 19 assists, six digs and three blocks.  Sophomore libero Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 10 digs.

Madison Benedict led the Wildcats to the sweep victory with an outstanding .824 attack percentage, knocking down 14 errorless kills in 17 swings.  Ariel Ley (22 assists), Haley Lawson (18 assists) and Jennifer Chamblee (14 digs) also had strong matches for Davidson.

In the nightcap against UNC Asheville, Melville again led the way with nine kills and 12 digs while Carneal posted 31 assists, seven digs and six kills.  A strong defensive effort led to three other Hatters reaching double digits in digs.  Russell recorded 20, junior outside hitter Kaylee Ream (Venice, Fla.) notched 14 and senior outside hitter Stephanie Canfield posted 11.  All of these figures (except Carneal's) represented career highs.  Freshman middle blocker Ellen Hawks (Austin, Texas) put up six kills and four blocks.

The Bulldogs were led by powerful double-doubles from Kelsey Benorden (17 kills, 25 digs) and Cindi Miller (22 kills, 14 digs).  Rachel Guinane handed out 41 assists and Alex Stewart had 19 digs as well for UNC Asheville.

Melville racked up 26 kills and 26 digs in three matches this weekend, hitting .202 (26-6-99) in her college debut and establishing herself as Stetson's primary offensive weapon on the wing.

The Hatters open the home portion of their schedule this coming weekend as they host the Clarion Invitational at the Edmunds Center.  Bethune-Cookman, Florida Atlantic, Wofford and Wyoming will be Stetson's guests; Live Stats and Hatter Vision will be available at GoHatters.com.  Social media updates on Stetson Athletics are available through Facebook, the Stetson Hatters Youtube channel and @StetsonSID on Twitter.
