Spartanburg, S.C. - The Stetson volleyball team (1-10, 0-1 Atlantic Sun) suffered a 3-1 setback to USC Upstate (4-7, 1-0 A-Sun) in the A-Sun opener for both teams Thursday evening.  Due to ongoing renovations to USC Upstate's Hodge Center, the match, which ended 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15 in favor of the Spartans, was played at Johnson Arena on the nearby Wofford College campus.  Two Hatters registered double-doubles with senior right side Brandy Worlton (Crystal River, Fla.) adding a career-high 17 kills.

Stetson was able to avoid the sweep by outlasting the Spartans 26-24 in the third set but was undone by an excellent USC Upstate attack (19-2-45, .378) in the fourth and final stanza.  Worlton tallied 17 kills on 37 swings for a .378 attack percentage to lead the Stetson offense; freshman outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) picked up 10 kills and 11 digs for second third double-double of the year.

Also registering a double-double for the Hatters was sophomore setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) with a season-high 44 assists and 16 digs.  Sophomore libero Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) collected 24 digs while freshman outside hitter Katie DiGirolamo (Bradenton, Fla.) recorded 12 digs and eight kills.

Kelsie Queen led USC Upstate with 21 kills while Emily Sanders (49 assists, 12 digs) and Cori Harris (12 kills, 10 digs) each recorded double-doubles for the Spartans.  Megan Healey (23 digs), Morgan Page (13 digs) and Mindy Quimby (12 digs, nine kills) also finished with top stat lines for USC Upstate.

The Hatters remain in town to play USC Upstate again, plus SIU Edwardsville and host Wofford in the Wofford Invitational this weekend.  A link to Live Stats is available at
