Spartanburg, S.C. - Freshman outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) recorded one double-double and came within one kill of a second on the day, but the Stetson volleyball team fell to 1-13 with a pair of 3-0 losses to SIU Edwardsville and Wofford to conclude the Wofford Invitational on Saturday. Melville was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Melville did the bulk of Stetson's offensive work in the morning's 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 loss to SIU Edwardsville, collecting 13 kills and 11 digs on .345 hitting (13-3-29). Sophomore setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) had 23 assists while sophomore libero Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied 10 digs. Sydney Winslow led the Cougars to the win with 15 kills, seven digs and four blocks; Julia Whitfield (12 kills), Sammi Minton (42 assists) and Karie Downing (13 digs) were also instrumental.
Melville, who was named to her second All-Tournament Team of the season after doing so on opening weekend at the JMU Classic, also had nine kills and 11 digs in the 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 loss to Wofford. Russell had 11 digs as well with Carneal adding 24 assists. Freshman midde blocker Ellen Hawks (Austin, Texas) hit .400 with six kills. Rachel Woodlee's nine errorless kills and .600 attack percentage brought Wofford the victory while setters Tara Gough and Bekah Dorsey handed out 17 and 14 assists, respectively. Reagan Styles had 13 digs.
Stetson returns to the Edmunds Center to host Atlantic Sun Conference rival Jacksonville at 3 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 25. The match will not count in the A-Sun standings; Hatter Vision and Live Stats are available at GoHatters.com.
