|Tim Loesch Named Stetson Volleyball Head Coach|
DeLand, Fla. - Stetson University Director of Athletics Jeff Altier and Assistant Athletic Director for Academics/Senior Woman Administrator Jan Usher are proud to announce the hiring of Tim Loesch as the new head coach of the volleyball program. Loesch, who comes to Stetson after seven seasons as women's volleyball coach and one year as men's volleyball coach at NCAA Division II Limestone College, will also inaugurate the sand volleyball program, an all-new NCAA Division I sport, for spring 2012.
Loesch (pronounced LESH) comes to Stetson from Limestone College where he served seven seasons as the head coach for their women's volleyball team. He also established the men's varsity volleyball program at Limestone, coaching them to a 12-10 overall record and 4-4 in conference play for their inaugural season. During his tenure, the women's team saw a dramatic turnaround, going from 17-158 before his arrival to a winning record since then. In the last six seasons his record was 116-90 overall and 77-39 in conference play, including a regular season conference title and three conference tournament runner-up finishes.
His revival of the Limestone program saw the Saints go 27-9 overall and 18-2 in conference play in 2006, earning Loesch Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year honors. His teams posted five consecutive winning seasons and Conference Carolinas top three finishes from 2006-09 as well as 14 conference Player of the Week awards, 12 All-Conference selections and four AVCA All-Region honorees overall.
"I'm honored and excited to be the volleyball coach at Stetson," Loesch said. "I'd like to thank Jan Usher and the search committee for their hospitality during the interview process and selecting me for the position. I especially want to thank Jeff Altier and Dr. Wendy Libby for their commitment to elevating Stetson Volleyball. Their vision matches mine and I embrace the challenge of this endeavor."
Usher, who led the search that delivered Coach Loesch to Stetson, said: "After conducting an extensive nationwide search with an outstanding pool of candidates, we are excited to add Tim to our staff. His history of building and rebuilding programs as well as his knowledge of sand volleyball makes him a good fit for us. The university's increased commitment to the court and sand programs is exciting and we look forward to seeing outstanding results."
Loesch began his coaching career as an assistant at Charlotte Country Day School where his efforts yielded two conference championships and two 3rd-place finishes in the state playoffs. He then coached at Peace College, helping that team achieve its only two winning seasons in the program's history. He next served as the head coach at Butler High School where he posted a winning record and earned two state-playoff berths.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Loesch holds a degree in business administration with magna cum laude honors.
"I feel the returning nucleus of the 2011 Stetson team got some valuable experience playing for Coach (Cheryl) Carlson," Loesch continued. "They learned what it will take to win in the Atlantic Sun Conference; they want to continue improving and earning respect for Stetson Volleyball. I look forward to leading them and recruiting even more quality scholar-athletes to join us in this pursuit."
