Daytona Beach, Fla. - Senior outside hitter Kaylee Ream (Venice, Fla.) tallied 14 kills to lead the Stetson volleyball team (3-9) to a hardfought 25-22, 25-23, 29-27 sweep Tuesday evening at Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman (6-9). With the win, the Hatters surpassed their 2010 victories total and improved to 48-4 all-time against B-CU.

Stetson jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first set before the Lady Wildcats fought back to within two points on several occasions. With B-CU serving down 24-22, junior setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) ended the first stanza with a surprise attack off a Ream dig.

The second set nearly mirrored the first with an 18-13 Hatter advantage soon disappearing into a 23-22 deficit, but Stetson would rally with a 3-0 run to claim the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) had two kills in that spurt, including the clinching point.

The third set was even closer than the first two as Stetson fought off a 22-19 deficit and set point at 25-24. The two teams traded points beyond the 25-point threshold until finally Melville knocked down the final kill of the night to give the Hatters a 29-27 victory.

Ream finished with five assists and five digs to go with her 14 kills while Melville recorded an 11-kill, 19-dig double-double. Melville's 19 digs represented a career high. Carneal paced the offense with 29 assists, eight kills and four digs with junior libero Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) collecting 16 digs.

B-CU's two-headed attack tandem of Janeen Davis (15 kills) and Krysta Gardner (10 kills, nine digs) did solid work all night for the Lady Wildcats, who also got a 27-assist, 10-dig double-double from setter Frances Rodriguez and 14 digs from libero Jennifer Jimenez.

Stetson plays its first Atlantic Sun Conference road match of the season at 7:00 pm Saturday, October 1 at FGCU. Fans can watch the match at ASun.TV; a link to Live Stats will be available at
