DeLand, Fla. - Sophomore middle blocker Ellen Hawks (Austin, Texas) hit .846 on 11 errorless kills, but the Stetson volleyball team dropped to 9-17 overall and 2-10 in Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 loss at host Jacksonville (14-16, 5-7 A-Sun) Friday evening at Swisher Gymnasium.
The Hatters kept it close in each set but ultimately the Dolphins, playing for their spot in the upcoming A-Sun tournament, hit the 25-point mark first in each set for the win. JU out-hit the Hatters .290 to .192 with narrow edges in kills (38-33) and digs (35-33).
Hawks was nearly unstoppable for Stetson, knocking down 11 kills with no errors in just 13 swings to hit a career-high .846; she was joined in double figure kils by senior outside hitter Kaylee Ream (Venice, Fla.) with 10. Junior setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) led the Hatters in assists with 30 and digs with eight.
Kylie Jacob and Alliya Drziewiecki led Jacksonville with 10 kills each; Jacob also had no errors and hit .714 for the match. Kendall Courtney had a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs to lead her team in both those categories.
