DeLand, Fla. - Stetson Head Coach Derek Waugh has announced an addition to the men's basketball staff. Chris Capko is now on board in the third assistant position behind current assistants Wylie Tucker and Sebastian Singletary. He will help fill the gap left behind by former assistant coach Jon Coffman who accepted a similar position at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
Capko comes to Stetson from Marshall University where he was a graduate assistant under Head Coach Donnie Jones. At Marshall he was responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program, monitoring the academic progress of the players, weight training and conditioning, film exchange, and assisting with the recruiting process.
After a semester in the basketball program at Florida under Billy Donovan, Capko transferred to USF in Tampa where he played for three years. As a junior he was fifth in the Big East in assists and as a senior he was the Bulls' team captain.
"Chris works hard, played at a high level and has played for and worked with some great coaches", said Waugh. "He is very bright and is very well thought of in the state of Florida. He will fit in great with our program and we are very excited to have him."
Capko earned Academic All-Big East honors as a junior and senior at USF. He was also the Bulls' nominee for Big East Basketball Student Athlete of the Year in 2007. Capko earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at USF in December 2006 and a Master's in Adult and Technical Education from Marshall in 2009.
"I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity Coach Waugh has provided me to be a part of the staff and Stetson Basketball family", said Capko.
"I look forward to the challenge of building upon the foundation that Coach Waugh, Coach Tucker, and Coach Singletary have started", he added.
