Savannah, Ga. Garfield Blair and Tim Lang scored season-highs, Mark Lohuis hit a career high with 11 points on his birthday, and the Hatters ended its four-game losing streak with a 70-62 win on the road over Savannah State.

Blair (Orlando, Florida) led all scorers with 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 6-for-8 from the line. He also led both teams under the glass with nine boards. Lang (Victoria, Australia) scored 11 points and came up with some key rebounds and Lohuis (Vero Beach, Fla.) equaled a season-high with three 3-pointers to spark the Hatters.

“Gar played a great game and Tim was huge tonight”, said Hatters head coach Derek Waugh. “He was scoring points, had some big rebounds and took a charge at a key moment.”

Stetson was a step behind early playing tentatively, turning the ball over six times and allowing the Tigers to open the game with an 11-0 run. The Hatters found their way and responded with a 12-2 run of their own on three field goals for Blair and a pair of 3-pointers by Lohuis and Eric Diaz (Miami, Fla.). The run made the score 13-12 for the Tigers with 12:56 remaining in the first half. By the break Stetson’s field goal percentage was 48% and it was up by 10 points (33-23).

“I have to give a lot of credit to our bench and those guys on the floor that didn’t lose their heads when we were down early”, said Waugh. “We faced a good defensive team tonight; they get after you, no doubt about that.”

Consecutive 3-pointers and two free throws by Tim Lang put the Hatters up 55-41 at 8:36. Savannah State returned volley with its own 9-love run to make the score 55-50 with 4:08 on the clock. After a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way Stetson came out on top 70-62.

After the Holiday Stetson will take off for Farmville, Virginia for a December 29th game against Longwood University. The Hatters will look to extend its new winning streak to two games and get set for the A-Sun season which begins later that week.
