Buies Creek, N.C. - Stetson (6-14, 4-5 A-Sun) traveled to Buies Creek, N.C. Saturday afternoon and dropped an Atlantic Sun Conference game 85-55 to Campbell (10-9, 4-6 A-Sun). It was the 3rd consecutive loss for the Hatters after a big win over Mercer at home on January 14.
Nine of the ten Hatters who played in the game contributed to the scoring column, yet for the first time this season not one was able to hit double-figures. Steve Forbes (Clermont, Fla.), Corey Walden (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Joel Naburgs (Victoria, Australia) each finished with nine points. Forbes and Jermol Paul (West Palm Beach, Fla.) tied for the team lead in rebounds with four. Campbell's Junard Harltley led all scorers with 16 points followed by Eric Griffin who had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
For the first 12 minutes of the first half the game was a close back-and-forth battle with neither team leading by more than four points. With the score tied at 20-20 at 8:09 Campbell took off on a 21-6 run to finish the half and head into the break up 41-26. The Camels maintained its momentum coming out of the locker room and pushed its lead to 21 points on a Griffin dunk at 16:07 and then up to 29 points after a Lorne Merthie 3-pointer with 11:11 left to play.
After shooting 47.8 % from the field in the first half Stetson fell to 34.8 % in the second and finished at 41.3 % (19-for-46) for the game. The Hatters were 23.5% (4-of-17) from beyond the arc and a disappointing 56.5% (13-for-23) from the free throw line. Campbell shot 52.8% (28-of-53) from the field and out rebounded Stetson 37-22.
