Nashville, Tenn. - Stetson (6-16, 4-7 A-Sun) had three players score in double figures led by freshman Luis Jacobo (Sanford, Fla.) with 14, yet the Hatters fell 82-62 and split the season series with Lipscomb (13-8, 8-4 A-Sun) Friday night in Nashville. Jacobo hit 6-of-14 from the field, 2-for-3 from the line and led the team in scoring for the 4th time this season. Fellow freshmen Steve Forbes (Clermont, Fla.) and Corey Walden (Ormond Beach, Fla.) were next with 13 and 11 points respectively. Forbes led the team under the glass with seven rebounds.
After falling behind by seven at the half Stetson came out of the locker room and was able to reduce the deficit to four points early in the second after a 3-pointer by Walden and then again after a layup by Forbes. That was as close as the Hatters would get however, as the Bisons pushed the lead to 16 with a 19-7 run, and then to as high as 25 points after a Brandon Barnes tip in with 3:37 remaining.
As a team Stetson shot 41.4% (24-for-58) from the field, 31.8% (7-of-22) from 3-point range and 58.3% (7-for-12) from the line. The Bisons out rebounded the Hatters 37-32 and outscored them 40-24 in the paint.
With the win Lipscomb was able to avenge its 76-66 loss to Stetson on January 3 in DeLand. Since that big win the Hatters are 2-7 including a current five-game skid.
Next up the Hatters remain in Nashville to take on Belmont Sunday afternoon, January 30 at 3:00 p.m. Stetson fans can catch the games on A-Sun TV by logging on to Hatter Vision.
