Nashville, Tenn. Lipscomb hit seven three-pointers in the first half to give itself a lead that proved to be insurmountable Saturday afternoon as the Bisons beat the Stetson men’s basketball team 77-53.  The Hatters fall to 9-13 and 5-4 in Atlantic Sun play while Lipscomb improves to 9-13 and 4-5 in the A-Sun.

Ahead by 11 points at halftime, Lipscomb pushed its lead as high as 21 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half.  It wouldn’t get any better for the Hatters from there on out as Stetson suffered its third loss in its last four games after a five-game winning streak.

Junior forward Garfield Blair (Orlando, Fla.) was the only Hatter in double figures, scoring 10 points.  Redshirt freshman forward Olivier Dupiton (Montreal, Quebec) came up with his strongest performance in a Stetson uniform, finishing with six points and seven rebounds.  Junior guard Kris Thomas (Lithonia, Ga.) scored nine points and sophomore guard Mark Lohuis (Vero Beach, Fla.) had eight.

LaKory Daniels poured in five three-pointers, all in the first half, on his way to a game-high 22 points for Lipscomb.  Brandon Brown added 12 points and six rebounds while Eddie Ard had 11 points.  The Bisons shot 49 percent from the field as a team and made nine of 20 three-point attempts (45 percent).

Lipscomb jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes and grew that lead to double digits thanks to the three-point shooting of Daniels.  He buried four shots from distance in the next nine minutes to help the Bisons keep the Hatters at bay early.

The two teams traded baskets and free throws much of the rest of the first half until Lipscomb stepped on the gas again and pushed its lead into double digits in the final minute.  It took A.J. Smith getting fouled and hitting two free throws with four-tenths of a second showing on the clock to keep the Hatters within 45-34 at the break.

Thomas was the bright spot for Stetson in the first half, scoring eight points on four of six shooting.  Sophomore guard Mark Lohuis (Vero Beach, Fla.) drilled a pair of treys to score six points.

Daniels was electric for the Bisons, finishing the half with 17 points on five of six three-point shooting.  Brown made all three of his field goal attempts and had seven points.  Lusk dished out five assists.

The Hatters are back in action at the Edmunds Center Friday at 7:30 p.m. to face USC Upstate.  The game will be televised on Comcast Sports Southeast while Harry Arnold and Murray Miller will broadcast the game live on the official Internet home of Stetson Athletics, www.gohatters.com.
