DeLand, Fla.  Stetson head men’s basketball coach Derek Waugh recently made the long journey to Australia. Although the primary motivation for his trip was recruiting for the Hatters, he also found the time to visit the Kilsyth Basketball Club and share his knowledge of the game.

Along with Vanderbilt University assistant coach Tom Richardson, Waugh put on a shooting and post play clinic for over 90 local coaches.

Richardson, a renowned shooting coach and took the coaches through the important teaching points and mechanics of shooting as well as some individual and team shooting drills.

Waugh, who coaches former Kilsyth Cobra Graeme Radford and Australian Tim Lang, covered post play. He took them through a series of drills to assist all post players not only with post moves, but rebounding and shooting.

Kilsyth Basketball Director of Coaching, and former Stetson assistant coach Rod Popp who organized the clinic thanked both coaches for the visit, “Tom and Derek both had excellent clinic presentations. It was great to for our coaches to be able to get hear their expertise first hand. It was also great to see the clinic so well received with over 90 coaches in attendance.”

“It is always a great experience going to see Rod in Melbourne”, said Waugh. “The opportunity to meet with all the Australian coaches and participate in the clinic was an added bonus”.
