After a rigorous eight-game road trip to start the 2013-14 campaign, the Stetson men’s basketball team finally returns to DeLand for the Hatters’ home opener on Saturday. Stetson, in search of its first win, welcomes Davidson to the Edmunds Center for a 1:00 p.m. tip.
Single game and season tickets for all Stetson basketball games are available at the Ticket Box Office at the Edmunds Center, online at GoHatters.com/tix, and by calling (386) 738-HATS. Saturday’s matinee can also be watched on HatterVision and listened to on WSBB AM 1230, WTJV AM 1490, and online at MyAM1230.com with Matt Musgrove on the call.
The Hatters (0-8) will welcome the opportunity to play in front of their home crowd after eight straight games on the road to start the season. Stetson is winless, but has had a couple of strong performances of late, losing late at USF (72-63) and against UNCG (75-68) in the final day of competition at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Wednesday.
Davidson (1-5), similarly, has played a difficult schedule in the early going. Reaching 12 NCAA Tournaments during their history, the Wildcats have endured losses against #4 Duke, #25 Virginia, and #19 New Mexico through the first six games of the season. Long-time head coach Bob McKillop is in his 25th season at Davidson.
Saturday will mark just the second ever meeting between Stetson and Davidson. The Wildcats defeated the Hatters by a score of 42-17 way back in 1917. The two storied programs haven’t met since, but Stetson has a long history against the Southern Conference, in which Davidson is a part of. The Hatters have played 10 of the 11 teams currently in the league, with much of that success coming against Samford (29-17).
