The Stetson men’s basketball team will take to Glenn Wilkes Court for the final time this season on Sunday, hosting league-leading Mercer at 1:00 p.m. Seniors Willie Green, Aaron Graham, Hunter Miller, and Raymone Andrews will be honored prior to tip-off at the Edmunds Center.
All four seniors will be playing in the final home game of their careers on Sunday, as Stetson finishes regular season competition next weekend on the road at Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb.
The Hatters (7-20, 5-10 A-Sun) are aiming to secure a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for the second straight year on Sunday. A win over the Bears, in conjunction with a Kennesaw State loss to Florida Gulf Coast would clinch a berth for Stetson.
Mercer (21-7, 12-3 A-Sun) is coming off of a 75-61 road loss at FGCU on Friday, but the Bears remain tied for first place with the Eagles at 12-3. Mercer, which won last year’s regular season title, will be aiming to win out in an attempt to earn the number one seed in the 2014 A-Sun Championships.
When these two teams met earlier this season it was all Mercer. The Bears won 87-49 in Macon to snap Stetson’s season-best three-game winning streak. Anthony White Jr. led all scorers with 19 points back on Jan. 25, while Willie Green paced the Hatters with 10 points in the defeat.
Stetson will attempt to rebound from Friday night’s 67-63 loss to visiting Kennesaw State, the Hatters’ third straight defeat. Junior Kentwan Smith led Stetson with 19 points, but the Owls’ 60.0 percent second half shooting led them to their first road win in league play this season.
