Down as many as 22 points in the first half, Stetson refused to give in, battling to within 35-20 by halftime. A 13-5 run coming out of the locker room helped the Hatters close within seven with 14:06 to play, but as would prove the case throughout the second period, the Camels (14-15, 11-9 A-Sun) answered each of Stetson’s bursts with big baskets of their own.
Stetson twice came as close as five points, the second time on a Tim Lang (Victoria, Australia) jumper that made it 53-48 with 4:23 to go. The Camels came back with a Lorne Merthie basket and a dagger three-pointer from Junard Hartley to extend the lead back to double digits with 3:11 remaining. The Hatters scored just three points the rest of the game.

Tonight’s loss dropped the Hatters into seventh place in the Atlantic Sun conference standings, thus ensuring the #7 seed and a Wednesday evening date with the league’s #2 seed, who will be either Belmont, ETSU or Jacksonville. Tip-off time from Lipscomb’s Allen Arena in the A-Sun Quarterfinals will be 8:30 p.m. Central, 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, March 4. A-Sun.TV will webcast the game.
