DeLand, Fla. Ė Stetson Men’s Basketball Coach Derek Waugh is pleased to announce the signing of Ronnie Mack, Jr. out of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Mack, a 6’0 guard, averaged 19 points and 2.6 steals per game for Oak Mountain leading them to a 20-9 record under Coach Reggie Mantooth. He was named the Birmingham News Shelby County Player of the year in 2008-09 and Second Team All-Birmingham. He played for the Birmingham Storm on the AAU circuit and was the team’s second leading scorer behind Kentucky signee DeMarcus Cousins.
“Ronnie is a little shorter but not small at 180lbs,” said Waugh. “He is a tough kid with strong shoulders who really can shoot, create, and defend. We are excited to have him join the program.
Mack joins Orlando’s Tyshawn Patterson, Australia’s Liam McInerney and Joel Naburgs, and red-shirt freshmen J.R. Weston and Ridge Graham as newcomers to the Stetson lineup next year.
“From a talent standpoint, this is the best class we have signed at Stetson during my tenure,” added Waugh. “It is now up to all of us to help them to reach their potential and develop the toughness that it will take for us to win.”
