Stetson Tops JU For Sixth Straight Win, 81-66

Jacksonville, Fla. ' E.J. Gordon recorded 19 points and eight rebounds as Stetson won its sixth game in a row, 81-66 over host Jacksonville in an Atlantic Sun Conference game Sunday afternoon at Swisher Gym.
The Hatters (11-17, 9-9 A-Sun) outscored the Dolphins 19-1 over the final 7:41 to post their longest winning streak in 19 years.? Stetson has also won nine out of 10 games for the first time since 1981.
'This was another good team win,' Hatters head coach Derek Waugh said.? 'Statistically up and down the box score everybody contributed.? I am so proud of the guys and the way they were able to turn a 2-8 start (in conference play) into a 7-1 record in the second half.'
The Dolphins (1-25, 1-18 A-Sun), who own the nation's longest current Division I losing streak at 23 games, shot 54 percent in the first half en route to a 44-36 halftime lead.?
Stetson still trailed 63-58 with nine minutes remaining, but outscored the Dolphins 23-3 the rest of the way.? The Hatters used a 17-0 run over a seven-minute stretch to break the game open.
'The last seven minutes we played really well, but I don't know if we have played our best overall game yet,' Waugh said.? 'Hopefully that will come in the conference tournament.'
Karl Hollingsworth added 17 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor and 3-for-4 shooting from behind the arc.? Garfield Blair added 12 points and Gabe McMillen chipped in 11.
'Karl shot the ball really well,' Waugh said.? 'We are going to need him down the stretch and it was big for him to step up tonight.'
Marcus Allen registered 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dolphins.? Antonio Cool netted 13 points and Auberly Connerly added 10.? JU shot just 22 percent in the second half.
The Hatters shot 44 percent for the game and owned a 39-36 advantage on the boards.
Stetson, which has moved a full game ahead of Campbell for seventh place (sixth seed) in the A-Sun standings, will host the Camels at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
Notes: Stetson completed a stretch of three road games in five days.? The Hatters won all three in come-from-behind fashion after trailing late in the second half in each game ...
