Nashville, Tenn. -- The Lipscomb Bisons buried the Hatters under a barrage of three-pointers Sunday afternoon at Allen Arena. Lipscomb never trailed while canning 11 treys and toppled the Hatters 79-68. Sophomore Tim Lang turned in his best offensive performance of the year, scoring a career-high 10 points.
The Bisons never struggled to shoot in their home gym, including a 13-minute stretch to begin the second half in which they hit 10 of 13 field goals and 3-4 beyond the arc. They shot 53.2% for the game.
Mark Lohuis and Kris Thomas hit a couple of late three-pointers for Stetson as Lipscomb struggled from the free throw line. Nevertheless, those baskets could only shave the deficit to 71-62 with 2:04 remaining.
Stetson once again had a tough time getting off the blocks. The Hatters managed just five shots in the first seven minutes and fell behind 10-2. After Stetson pulled within a basket, Lipscomb reeled off an 11-2 run to go on top 21-10 at the 9:56 mark. The Bisons led by as many as 14, but Stetson finished the half on a 7-3 spurt to pull within 36-28 at halftime.
In addition to Lang's 10 points, three other Hatters reached double figures. Garfield Blair and Kris Thomas led the team with 11 and Gabe McMillen added 10. Blair and J.J. Hirst hauled in six rebounds a piece and Blair also led the team with three assists.
Trey Williams and Eddie Ard, the A-Sun Pre-Season Player of the Year, led the Bisons offensively. Williams hit three big three's in the first half and ended with 16 points. Ard topped all scorers with 25 points on 8-12 shooting.
The Hatters continue their Nashville swing when they face Belmont Tuesday night at 8:00.
