Gabe McMillen was named the A-Sun Player of the Week.

(DeLand, Fla.) -- Stetson senior Gabe McMillen was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.  McMillen shares this week’s honor with Belmont’s Andy Wicke.  McMillen averaged 20 points per game in a week during which the Hatters went 3-0.

In addition to putting up impressive numbers, McMillen also proved to be a sentimental choice.  It was his free throws on Sunday’s Senior Day that sealed a 62-57 Stetson win in his final game at the Edmunds Center.  Those free throws gave him 21 points to go along with four assists and four steals.

Sunday’s game was the last of three big performances during the week for McMillen.  He helped the Hatters to an 88-74 victory over Savannah State on Tuesday by scoring a career-high 23 points, including 18-for-19 free throw shooting.

The guard from Largo, Fla. was also instrumental in a 74-63 victory over North Florida on Thursday.  McMillen scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five assists.

For the week, McMillen averaged 20.0 points per game with 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds, while hitting 30-of-36 free throws and 54.5% of his three-point attempts.

This is McMillen’s first career Player of the Week award and the first won by a Stetson player in 2006-07.
