DeLand, Fla. - Stetson women's soccer head coach Julie Orlowski announced her team's 2012 schedule on Friday. The slate will see the Hatters host eight matches at the newly-renovated Stetson Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
Stetson opens the season in Miami Friday, August 17 at defending Sun Belt Conference champions FIU; the Hatters beat the Panthers 2-1 in last season's opener in DeLand thanks to an 89th minute Alexis Hermosa goal, her second of the match. The first official contest at Stetson's new home facility will be 1:00 pm Sunday, August 19 when the Hatters host Georgia Southern.
Following another home match at 7:00 pm Saturday, August 25 against cross-county NAIA foe Embry-Riddle, Stetson will head to Troy, Alabama for two matches in the Trojan Classic. The Hatters face Jacksonville State on Friday, August 31 before taking on the host school, Troy, on Sunday, September 2.
Stetson hosts Florida Atlantic at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 8 and UAB at 4:00 pm Friday, September 14 before heading to Greenville, S.C. to battle Furman in the non-conference finale Sunday, September 16. In a historic twist, five of Stetson's eight non-conference foes (FIU, GSU, JSU, Troy and FAU) were once Atlantic Sun Conference members along with the Hatters.
A-Sun action kicks off Friday, September 21 and Sunday, September 23 as Stetson travels to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on ETSU and then to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate. The remainder of the 2012 regular season will be spent in the Sunshine State, starting with the A-Sun home opener at 7:00 pm Friday, September 28 against Northern Kentucky. NKU will be entering its first season in NCAA Division I and the A-Sun.
The Hatters host Lipscomb at 1:00 pm Sunday, September 30 to close out an eight-match month of September. A three-match road trip is next up with stops at Jacksonville (October 5), North Florida (October 7) and FGCU (October 13) before Stetson finishes up at home against Mercer (7:00 pm Friday, October 19) and Kennesaw State (1:00 pm Sunday, October 21). The KSU match will mark Senior Day for Coach Orlowski's program.
The Atlantic Sun Conference tournament will again be a two-stage process with two quarterfinal matches at higher seeds on Saturday, October 27 with the semifinals and finals set for November 2/4 at the #1 seed. The top six teams in the standings will qualify with the exception of NKU, which is not postseason-eligible until 2016. The NCAA Tournament will run from November 10 through December 2 with the College Cup slated for San Diego, California.
