MACON, Ga. – The Stetson women’s soccer team was predicted to finish ninth in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released by the league on Thursday afternoon.

The Hatters (3-13-1, 1-7-1 in 2012) received 28 points in the poll, nine points higher than 10th place USC Upstate, and one point behind eighth place Northern Kentucky. Florida Gulf Coast, last year’s regular season and tournament champion, earned five first place votes and 95 total points to top the poll. The Eagles were followed by four teams within two points of each other.

Jacksonville was selected second with one first place vote and 73 total points. ETSU and Mercer tied for third with 72 points, while Kennesaw State was close behind in fifth place with 72 points. The Bucs and the Owls each received one first place nod. North Florida and Lipscomb were picked sixth and seventh in the poll, respectively, totaling 53 and 38 total points.

Stetson, under new head coach Manoj Khettry, returns 17 players and nine out of 11 starters from a year ago. Eight newcomers will join the fold in 2013, as the Hatters attempt to win their first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

The exhibition schedule begins at home on Aug. 16 when the Hatters host Armstrong Atlantic. Stetson will open up regular season action with three straight home contests, starting with Embry-Riddle on Aug. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
