Johnson City, Tenn. – The Hatters will have to wait for another day to clinch a berth in the A-Sun Tournament after dropping a 1-0 game at East Tennessee State. With a win over the Buccaneers Stetson could have secured its spot in the post-season event.
Although the Hatters controlled play for most of the game, it was an early goal by ETSU that decided the outcome. Megan Masch picked up a goal just 2:34 into the contest with an assist going to Jessica Huntington and that was all the Buccaneers needed.
Overall Stetson had an 11-5 advantage in shots while the shots on goal were even at 4-4. Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.) led all players with five shots and two shots on goal. Freshman Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) and junior Heather Berg (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished with two shots each.
Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, Mo.) played 90 minutes picking up three saves.
With the loss Stetson drops to 6-8-2 overall, and 4-4-0 in conference play. ETSU is now 6-8-1 and 4-4-1 in the A-Sun.
Stetson continues its road trip Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. game in Spartanburg, S.C. against USC Upstate.
