St. Louis, Mo. - Two-time defending Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.) returned to the top of the league scoring list with her 9th and 10th points of the season and senior Natalie Simon (Lauderhill, Fla.) tallied her first goal of 2010, but it wasn't enough as Stetson (3-5-0) fell to Arkansas-Little Rock (3-5-0) by a score of 4-2. Although played in St. Louis, Missouri, Stetson played as the home team in today's neutral site game.
Gavilsky gave the numerous Hatters fans in attendance an early thrill with her 3rd goal of the season in the 9th minute of play. She took a pass from freshman Alyssa Welsh (Edison, NJ) at the left side of the box and ripped a shot across the goalmouth and into the right corner. It was the 3rd assist of the weekend for Welsh who also set up Gavilsky's game-opening goal in Friday's win over Southeast Missouri.
The Trojans responded with four unanswered goals between the 15th and 63rd minutes of play. In the 76th minute Simon was set up by Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) off a corner kick by Samantha Snyder (Ponte Vedra, Fla.).
In the game Stetson finished with a 20-18 advantage in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, Mo.) picked up six saves.
This coming weekend the Hatters will continue their month away from the Stetson Soccer Complex and open up A-Sun play in Jacksonville. On Friday the 17th they will play UNF at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday the 19th will take on JU at 2:00 p.m.
