Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson women's soccer team completed its regular season with a 4-0 loss to Florida Gulf Coast Saturday night in Fort Myers. The loss dropped Stetson's record to 7-10-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The win boosted the Eagles to 11-4-2 overall, 8-0-2 in league play, and secured them the regular season conference championship.
Stetson will now enter the A-Sun post-season tournament as either the 5th or 6th seed depending on Sunday's ETSU at USC Upstate game. If ETSU loses Stetson will be the #5 seed and travel to Kennesaw State next week to play the Owls. Should ETSU win Stetson will become the #6 seed and travel to Jacksonville to play UNF in the quarterfinal round.
The bad news Saturday was that the Eagles controlled the majority of the game scoring a single goal in the first half and adding three more in the second. The good news for the Hatters was the opportunity to give most of their lineup quality playing time in preparation for the tournament.
FGCU finished the game with a 16-4 advantage in shots and up 6-1 in corner kick chances.
Stetson goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia made four saves while Jennifer Raneri, Ciarra Britt, and Sarah Rodriguez each had a shot on goal for the visitors.
