DeLand, Fla. - The Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament pairings are set and Stetson is set to travel to Jacksonville Saturday to take on the University of North Florida at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.
The Hatters are seeded #6 while the Ospreys are #3. The other quarterfinal matchup will also be played Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and will feature #5 ETSU at #4 Kennesaw State. The winners of each game will move on to play in the Final Four hosted by Jacksonville University. On Thursday, November 4 the #1 seed and host Dolphins will play the winner of the ETSU vs. KSU game and #2 Mercer will face the winner of the Stetson vs. UNF game. The Championship game will be played Saturday, November 6 at 1:00 p.m.
Stetson heads into the tournament with one of the top offenses in the league. The Hatters are 2nd in scoring with 90 points, as well as goals scored with 28. They also lead the A-Sun in assists with 34.
Two-time defending A-Sun Player of the Year Tessa Gavilsky once again leads the conference in scoring as tournament play begins. So far in 2010 the senior is 1st in points scored (23), points per game (1.28), assists (9), assists per game (0.50), and is 3rd in goals scored (7). She is joined on the A-Sun's top-10 scoring list by junior Courtney Jenista who has totaled six goals and four assists for 16 points (5th place). Senior Katie Bitetto is ranked 3rd in the conference in assists with seven.
This is the 8th consecutive season that the Stetson women's soccer team has qualified for the A-Sun Tournament. The longest consecutive streak in the league. Last season the #3 Hatters reached the semifinals before falling 1-0 to #2 Belmont.
