West Point, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, but that would be the Stetson women's soccer team's only score of the afternoon as the Hatters (1-4) fell 5-1 at Army on Sunday in the finale of the Black Knight Classic. Hermosa and freshman Katie O'Kennedy (Oviedo, Fla.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Kim An got the host Black Knights off to a roaring start with goals in the 10th and 19th minutes, allowing Army to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Stetson finally got on the scoreboard in the 50th minute after a scramble for the ball in front of the Army goal resulted in Hermosa putting one past goalkeeper Monica Lee. Sophomore forward Alyssa Welsh (Summit, N.J.) was credited with her first assist of the season.
Army would not let Stetson build on that momentum, however, getting a goal from Joey Molacek 12 minutes later to restore the two-goal advantage. Dee Clegg (82nd minute) and Julia Stallard (88th minute) gave the Black Knights even more insurance with their late goals.
Senior goalkeeper Grace Turner (Fort Myers, Fla.) made her first career start between the pipes for the Hatters and finished with seven saves in 90 minutes. Stetson suffered its fourth straight defeat with today's loss.
The Hatters will be in Boiling Springs, N.C. next weekend for the Gardner-Webb Border Classic. Stetson faces Chattanooga at 4:00 pm Friday and meets host G-WU at 2:00 pm Sunday. Live Stat links, if available, will be posted at GoHatters.com.
