DeLand, Fla. - Stetson Head Women's Soccer Coach Julie Orlowski is proud to announce the signing of eight talented student-athletes that will join the Hatters in August 2012. The class includes seven freshmen as well as a two-time NJCAA All-American goal scorer.
"This class is made up of talented students and athletes," Orlowski reports. "We were able to address all our positional needs and then some - I expect this class to make an immediate impact this fall."
AMANDA COPFER (NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO/MAGNIFICAT HS) - 5'7" - GOALKEEPER
Copfer played varsity soccer at Magnificat High School in Rocky River, Ohio, where she was also a National Honor Society member. From between the pipes, she helped direct MHS to two district finals appearances while earning a Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Week award in the 2010 season. A member of the ODP Ohio North State Team, Copfer also was a club soccer standout, leading the Cleveland Cobras U14-17 to a raft of titles including national indoor championships in 2010 and 2011, making a State Cup semifinals appearance with Ohio Premier U-17 and also playing for Cleveland Internationals. She plans to major in Sport Management.
Coach Orlowski says - "Amanda is an accomplished goalkeeper with a huge upside. It shouldn't take her long to challenge for time."
DANIELLE HURME (WELLINGTON, FLA./THE KING'S ACADEMY) - 5'5" - MIDFIELDER
Hurme helped lead The King's Academy to four district titles as well as a regional championship and state final four appearance in 2009; she also was part of a Team Boca club squad that made the 2011 State Cup Elite Eight. Hurme, who has carried a 4.0+ GPA throughout her scholastic career with several hundred hours of community service was named to the National Christian School Athletic Association's First Team All-America squad for 2010-11. She is undecided on her major at Stetson.
Coach Orlowski says - "Danielle is a versatile player who can play any of the midfield positions as well as the back line. No matter where she ends up playing, she makes players around her better."
MARA KEOMANIVANE (GRANITE CITY, ILL./GRANITE CITY HS) - 5'0" - MIDFIELDER
Keomanivane comes to Stetson from Granite City (Ill.) High School, a strong varsity program that recently produced Stetson's all-time leading scorer in women's soccer and two-time A-Sun Player of the Year Tessa Gavilsky '11 as well as current junior midfielder Kassandra Hartwick. Keomanivane is a two-time All-Conference and All-Sectional honoree that just led GCHS to a 2011 Class 3A state championship; she played club soccer for the St. Louis Scott Gallagher organization. The National Honor Society student intends to study Biology.
Coach Orlowski says - "Mara is the latest in a long line of players from the greater St. Louis area to represent Stetson and I expect her to be just as impactful. Her vision and creativity are welcome additions to our midfield."
MAKESHIA LUCIEN (WELLINGTON, FLA./SUNCOAST HS) - 5'5" - FORWARD
Lucien brings outstanding academic credentials to Stetson women's soccer, having made the Honor Roll and Principal's List with upwards of 300 community service hours throughout her time at Suncoast HS in Riviera Beach, Fla. Lucien led SHS to three district championships and two regional semi-finals and also played for Team Boca in club soccer alongside fellow Stetson signee Hurme. Lucien comes from a very athletically accomplished family as two cousins played football, including current Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon, as well as a third that competed in track and field at Florida State. She intends to major in Health Science.
Coach Orlowski says - "Makeshia adds tremendous speed and athleticism to our lineup. She is a very dangerous player who can attack from the left or right."
AUTUMN MATTHEWS (FAYETTEVILLE, GA./WHITEWATER HS) - 5'6" - DEFENDER
Matthews played four years of soccer for Whitewater HS in Fayetteville, Ga. (where she earned All-County and All-Region honors) as well as club soccer for West Georgia United '94 Elite. The WHS Wildcats won regional championships and made the state finals three years in a row with Matthews. She intends to study Integrative Health Science.
Coach Orlowski says - "Autumn adds much-needed athleticism to our backline. She will help return our back line to the stingy days of old."
REBECCA OSER (VALRICO, FLA./BLOOMINGDALE HS) - 5'3" - DEFENDER
A Spanish Honor Society student at Bloomingdale High School (Valrico, Fla.), Oser played four years of soccer and two of flag football. She helped pace the BHS Bulls to three straight regional semifinal appearances, twice earning All-County honors in the process, as well as taking her club team Tampa Bay United to the 2010 State Cup final four and a runner-up finish in the 2012 Disney Showcase. Oser intends to study Sport Management.
Coach Orlowski says - "Becca is a very experienced defender who can play any of the back line positions. She is a solid one-on-one defender with great distribution skills."
CIERRA "JORJE" PIERCE (AZLE, TEXAS/AZLE HIGH SCHOOL) - 5'3" - DEFENDER
Pierce was a First Team All-District defender at Azle (Texas) High School her freshman season, but did not play varsity soccer thereafter. Instead, she played club soccer for Sting West 94. Pierce, an Honor Roll student who will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class at AHS, plans to major in Integrative Health Science.
Coach Orlowski says - "Jorje is our first signee from Texas. She is a speedy player who can play on either flank; she has the ability to be both a shut down defender and a dangerous player on the attack."
ALEXIS TRYBINSKI (COLLINSVILLE, ILL./SOUTHWESTERN ILLINOIS COLLEGE) - 5'3" - FORWARD
Trybinski will come to Stetson with two years of eligibility remaining after two seasons of NSCAA and NJCAA All-America level performance for Head Coach Chad Lingoul at Southwestern Illinois College. As a sophomore in 2011, she racked up an astonishing 23 goals and 21 assists for 67 points in just 16 matches. The National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) named her a First Team All-American with Second Team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA); those organizations gave her the same awards in reverse (NSCAA 1st Team, NJCAA 2nd Team) after her 2010 freshman season in which she scored 21 goals and handed out 18 assists. An All-Sectional honoree at Collinsville (Ill.) High School, she played for the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Club, as did fellow signee Keomanivane. Trybinski intends to major in Psychology.
Coach Orlowski says - "Alex will make a big impact on the field and in the locker room. Her accomplishments on the field speak for themselves and her experience and maturity are a much-needed addition to our young squad."
Stetson finished 4-11-2 overall and 3-5-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference action in 2011 but brighter days are almost certainly ahead as seven of the top eight Hatter scorers are slated to return, including forward Katie O'Kennedy (team-high 15 points as a freshman), Second Team All-Atlantic Sun midfielder Colleen O'Kennedy and A-Sun All-Freshman Team defender Morgan Campbell.
