The Stetson women's
soccer team heads back on the road this weekend to take on a pair of teams near
the top of the conference standings. The
Hatters will take on Jacksonville on Friday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m., and then
challenge North Florida on Sunday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
Jacksonville welcomes
Stetson to town with an overall record of 5-4-2, and an undefeated mark of
2-0-1 in league play. The Dolphins are
also undefeated in their last four contests, topping College of Charleston,
Northern Kentucky, and Lipscomb before tying North Florida 1-1 last
Friday. Marie Weckhurst leads JU with
four goals and two assists for 10 points in 2012, while Raquel Weckhurst has
added four assists for the Dolphins.
North Florida will host
FGCU on Friday before taking on Stetson on Sunday. The Ospreys are currently 4-6-2 overall, but
are an undefeated 2-0-1 in conference action.
After five straight games without a victory during the middle part of
the season, UNF has gone three straight without a loss, topping NKU and
Lipscomb before the 1-1 tie against Jacksonville last Friday. Thea Linkfield and Carolina Lencina lead the
way so far this season, each tallying four goals and three assists for 11 total
points.
Jacksonville holds a
10-7-2 advantage over Stetson in the all-time series, which began in 1995 when
Stetson won 9-1 at home. Jacksonville
has won the last two tilts, defeating the Hatters 1-0 in 2010 and 3-1 in
2011. In the eight times that Stetson
has matched up with UNF, both teams have come away with four wins. The Ospreys took the first ever game, a 1-0
decision in 2005, but Stetson has won the last two, including a 1-0 victory in
the 2010 A-Sun Tournament.
