DeLAND—Three players scored two goals apiece as Minnesota eased its way to 10-0 win over Stetson in the season opener for both teams, Friday at the Athletic Training Center.
Minnesota wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring its first goal 33 seconds into the match when Olivia Schultz found the back of the net off a pass from Simone Kolander.
Rachel McCloskey made it a 2-0 game at 3:59 when she scored thanks to an assist from Ashley Pafko. Schultz and Kolander hooked up again at the 7:22 mark to make it a 3-0 game.
Kolander, who finished with two goals and three assists, scored consecutive goals for the Gophers before halftime, helping Minnesota to a 5-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw Minnesota score another five goals. Sydeny Squires scored the first two goals of the half and Jen Larrick, Julianna Gernes and Taylor Wodnick also scored.
Tarah Hobbs made two saves in goal for the Gophers, while Ashley Ingolia stopped three shots.
The Hatters return to action when they visit Florida Atlantic, 1 p.m., Sunday.
