Stetson University rowing head coach Mark Wilson is thrilled to announce the hiring of James Dietz II as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's rowing programs.

Rowing runs deep in Dietz's blood.  His father Jim Dietz is a three-time U.S. Olympian and a long-time coaching legend who is currently at the helm of the University of Massachusetts women's rowing program.

James Dietz has been around rowing for decades and jumped from running cross-country in high school straight to the U.S. National Rowing Team in 2006. James represented the U.S. in the 1x in 2006 at the U23 Championships in Belgium and in the Senior World Cup in Luzerne Switzerland.  Since 2006 he has been training and racing to compete in the Olympics in the 1x.  He is a multiple-time U.S. National Champion and finished third in the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012.

Dietz is now looking to continue training and to change his focus to sharing his love and passion for the sport to younger athletes.

"James is an ideal role model for our team," Wilson said.  "His work ethic, technical expertise and ability to relate to the team members is exactly what I was looking for in an assistant.  The team will be a better team with James in DeLand and his international background and his youth and his excitement will be a great boost to the growth of the team."

"I am thrilled to be in a fabulous setting with a fantastic supportive university, an incredible location to row and train the team," Dietz said.  "Stetson has all the pieces to make a great team consistently and I look forward to reach out to young rowers from across the nation and show them all that Stetson has to offer."
