Augusta, Ga. – The Stetson University men’s golf team posted a better score in the second round of Saturday’s Forest Hills Collegiate Tournament, but was unable to hang on to third place in the seven team tournament.

Despite an opening round score of 313, the Hatters were in third place with a one shot lead on Gardner-Webb at the half way point in play, but the Bulldogs were two shots better than Stetson in the second round, edging the Hatters for third place by one shot.

The host team from Georgia Regents University (formerly Augusta State) pulled away in the second round for a seven shot victory over second place USC Upstate. The Jaguars placed six players in the top 10 on their home course, led by Meechai Padung, who’s second round 69 was enough for a four stroke victory over teammate Viktor Edin for top individual honors.

Padung (143) was the only player to finish under par. Edin (147) was three over and USC Upstate’s Adam Goins (148) finished third at four over par.

Stetson sophomore David Torres (149) was among a group of four players tied for fourth place at five over par.

Five of the six Stetson players in the tournament posted better scores in the second round of play, with the only exception being freshman Eliott Azoulay, who posted matching 78s in the two rounds to finish tied for 24th.

Sophomore Dustin Dingus (79-74=153) finished 17th at nine over par. Classmate Andrew Peterson (82-72=154) was one shot further back in a tie for 18th, followed by freshman Zach Stark (78-77=155) in a tie for 22nd. Junior team co-captain Matt Taylor (80-77=157) tied for 26th.

The Hatters will open play on Monday in the Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate Tournament. Live scoring for that event will be available through
