DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University men’s tennis team took matches at the No. 1 and No. 5 courts along with a doubles match vs North Florida, Saturday, but fell to the Ospreys 5-2, at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters were led by Chester Espie who began singles play with a victory at No. 5, over the Osprey’s Zachary Goldberg  6-4, 7-5. Nathan Debut also chipped in with a victory at the No. 1 court, defeating Jack Findel-Hawkins of UNF, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (11-9).

The lone victory for Stetson in doubles play came from the pairing of Laurynas Antropikas and Chester Espie who downed North Florida’s Yannick Zuern/Caio Gomes, 7-6 (7-5).

Egor Panyushkin came close to stealing a match over UNF’s Bernard Craveiro on court No. 6, taking him to a tiebreaker in the third set, but the sophomore eventually fell to his conference competitor, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (8-10).

Stetson, now 6-7, next takes on UAB, Tuesday, Mar. 25 in DeLand. The match is set to get underway at 2:30 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand.
