The Stetson women's basketball team enjoyed its first home playoff game in 17 years Tuesday night, but if the Hatters are to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference Champions, they will have to do so on the road.
No. 2 seed Stetson (25-6) will face no. 3 seed USC Upstate (17-13) in the A-Sun semifinals Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in a game broadcast live on ESPN3 (WatchESPN App for mobile devices) and WSBB radio.
The winner will face the Florida Gulf Coast-Mercer winner at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon for the championship.
"We just have to stay together," freshman Brianti Saunders said looking forward to the weekend. "We have to work harder in every practice, listen to coach, and do what we have to do. We can't stay complacent with where we are. We have to get better every day."
The Hatters swept the season series from USC Upstate, earning a 78-64 win in DeLand on Jan. 9, and a 79-66 win in Spartanburg on Feb. 6. Sasha Sims averaged 16 points per game against the Spartans, while Myeisha Hall averaged 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sims enters the weekend just nine points shy of breaking the school's all-time scoring record, currently held by Michelle Michael (1985-89, 1570 points).
If the Hatters advance to Sunday's championship, the game will be broadcast live on CSS, ESPN3 (subject to blackout), BrightHouse Sports Network, and ASun.TV.
Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed, and Hat-Alerts will also provide in-game updates.
