DeLand, Fla. - Stetson Athletics invites Hatters fans to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show with the 2010-11 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Champions this Monday at Beef O'Brady's (2667 South Woodland Boulevard) in DeLand. The show will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
The team will gather at approximately 6:15 at the restaurant and then settle in to wait for the announcement of who and where the Hatters will play in the NCAA Tournament. First round games will be either Saturday, March 19 or Sunday, March 20.
This will be Stetson's second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history; the 16th-seeded Hatters met and fell to #1 LSU in Knoxville, Tenn. in March 2005. This year's edition of the Hatters carries a 20-12 overall record into March Madness, the third-highest win total in program history and the most since 2000-01.
Stetson went 13-7 in Atlantic Sun Conference play to take the #2 seed in last week's General Shale Brick A-Sun Championships, where it routed seventh-seeded Kennesaw State 65-47 in the quarterfinals, edged sixth-seeded Belmont 48-46 in the semifinals on A-Sun Tournament MVP Victoria McGowan's "Miracle in Macon" 55-foot heave at the buzzer and then dispatched fifth-seeded Jacksonville 69-50 in the championship game. Senior guard Tierra Brown and freshman forward Sasha Sims joined McGowan on the All-Tournament Team; McGowan's incredible shot would clock in at #1 on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays the following morning (March 5).
