DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's basketball team (21-6, 12-3 Atlantic Sun) closed out its 2011-12 home schedule in fine fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling past A-Sun rival Lipscomb (5-20, 3-11 A-Sun) 74-59 at the Edmunds Center. Junior guard Shanasa Sanders (Jacksonville, Fla.) led three Hatters in double figures with 21 points.

Stetson only trailed once the whole game, that at the very outset where the opening tip bounced directly to Lipscomb forward Hannah Phillips under the basket for a layup. Sanders answered with a layup on the first Hatter possession and the first of her five three-pointers on the next trip down the floor for a 5-2 lead that Stetson would not relinquish.

The Hatters drained five three-pointers in each half and held Lipscomb to 32 percent first half shooting, steadily pulling away from the Lady Bison. Junior guard Ashley Dennis (Bexley, Ohio) made it a 14-point margin with a triple at the 8:28 mark while a basket by junior guard Victoria McGowan (Inkster, Mich.) put the Hatters ahead by 16 (31-15) with 2:52 to go. Lipscomb's Shanice Burnette beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer to send the game to halftime at 34-23.

Lipscomb didn't go away quietly, steadily nicking away at Stetson's lead until an Anna Bowers three-pointer with 13:15 to go brought the Lady Bison within six. However, Sanders immediately answered with a trifecta of her own from the right corner that started an 11-0 Hatter run that put the contest out of reach. Stetson would lead by as many as 21 before coasting home with the 15-point margin of victory.

Sanders hit five of 10 three-point attempts to finish with 21 points, six rebounds and three steals. McGowan filled the stat sheet again for the Hatters to the tune of 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists while sophomore forward Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.) joined them in double figures with 12 points. Nine of the 10 Hatters to enter the game recorded at least one assist and Stetson had 19 in total.

Bowers scored 21 points to lead Lipscomb with Morgan Faulkner adding 14 points. Brittany Duerk grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Bison.

The Hatters, who celebrated Senior Day for guard Lyllique Roman (Poinciana, Fla.), are off until taking on league-leading FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla. at 7:00 pm Saturday, February 18.
