|FGCU Out-Shoots Hatters 79-56|
Fort Myers, Fla. – The Stetson Hatters had no answer for the three-point shooting of Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night, falling to the Eagles 79-56 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
Stetson falls to 21-7 overall and 12-4 in league play with the loss. FGCU improved to 24-2 on the year and 16-0 in A-Sun play.
FGCU hit 10 of their 15 three-pointers in the first half to build a lead the Hatters were never able to overcome. While the Eagles had a hot night, the Hatters struggled to find their normal shooting stroke.
The Hatters were led offensively by junior Victoria McGowan with 14 points. Stetson also got 12 points from junior guard Shanasa Sanders.
After falling behind 22-7 early, Stetson showed some spark late in the first half, closing the period on an 8-0 run in the last three minutes, but still trailed 41-24 at halftime.
Stetson made six three-pointers on the night to tie the single-season program record it set in 2010-11 with 173 triples on the year.
Eglah Griffin and Kelsey Jacobson scored 14 points apiece to lead four Eagles in double figures. Sarah Hansen scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds with Brittany Kennedy contributing 12 points and seven rebounds.
Stetson will be back in action on Thursday at East Tennessee State. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. from the MSHA Athletic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
