Macon, Ga. – The Stetson women’s basketball team will look to defend last year’s Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament championship tonight at 6 p.m. when the Hatters take on USC Upstate.

The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the University Center on the Mercer campus. Coverage of the game will be available exclusively on online.

Stetson enters the 2012 Basketball Championship as one of only two A-Sun teams with a 20-win season under its belt. The Hatters capped the season with a 21-8 record and 12-5 in conference play en route to the No. 2 seed in the championship.

Junior Victoria McGowan - the 2012 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Award - looks to repeat on her Tournament MVP performance last season and return the Hatters to the top of the A-Sun. McGowan leads the nation with two triple-doubles and is best on Stetson for scoring (16.5), assists (4.9) and steals (2.7).

Aiding McGowan in the pursuit for back-to-back titles includes Second Team All-Conference member, Sasha Sims, and All-Freshman team member, Cherisse Burris. Junior transfer Shanasa Sanders adds some firepower to the Hatters’ lineup by averaging 12.9 points per game - second-best on the team.

Last season, head coach Lynn Bria became the first coach in A-Sun history to guide two different squads to an A-Sun Championship after previously leading UCF to the title in 1999.
