On a day full of sunshine and flat water the Stetson Crew rowed at its best in Tampa on Saturday. The regatta hosted 28 schools from 3 states. Racing against top crews of Jacksonville University, Colgate, Hamilton College in New York, Tampa, U. of Florida and other Florida programs, Stetson started the day medaling in both the women's pair and the men's pair.
The lightweight women, racing in open weight events came in fourth in a field of six boats in both the eight and the four. The open women came in fifth in their race. The novice men took forth. The Stetson open men of Bill Brady, Scott Pearson, Tayler Hetherington and Gary Mena, with Christina Versache, coxing raced very well in a tough field against Colgate and JU yet grabbed bronze medals.
The team will be at home for two weeks before traveling to the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Championships in Sarasota on April 10. This race is considered the state championship and Stetson has historically done well there and is looking to medal in a few events this spring of 2010.
