Stetson Rowing Coach Susan Saint Sing spoke at the national "Coach Like a Champion Today" conference at the University of Notre Dame this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One hundred coaches of various sports attended from across the United States. Coaches were in attendance from as far away as Seattle, Maine, and Texas.
"Of course the University of Notre Dame is a great university academically--and also athletically. As a Ph.D. and as a coach, it is an honor for me to have been given the opportunity to speak at their national coaching conference", said Saint Sing. "I have been coaching for a quarter of a century and have coached six national medals in rowing, and that is but a shadow in the continuum of venerable Notre Dame sport lore."
The program is a coaching forum to teach faith-based values of body, mind, and heart to young athletes stemming from the internationally acclaimed "Play Like a Champion" educational series. The Coaching Conference is a special leadership forum for coaches, athletic directors, sport medicine practitioners, and academics in sport related fields.
Coach Saint Sing spoke on "ARETE: In the Pursuit of Excellence," where she related stories and lessons-learned from over 25 years of coaching, speaking, and writing. The University of Notre Dame uses Dr. Saint Sing's book "Spirituality of Sport: Balancing Body and Soul" in their undergraduate classes.
