DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University rowing team will host Wesleyan University (Conn.), this Saturday, March 15, as the women’s Varsity 8 boats will kick-off race action, beginning at 8:30 and 9 a.m. on Lake Beresford.
The Hatters’ Varsity 8+II boat will continue the morning’s competition with races at 8:45 and 9:15 a.m. Wesleyan, who comes to the Sunshine State from Middletown, Conn., has been training in DeLand and is coached by Pat Tynan, now in his fifth season.
The Stetson men's team will also be in action on Saturday as they will be conducting multiple 4 minute pieces with the men of Wesleyan. The Varsity 4 will be conducting pieces on the lake as well, at the same time as the women.
"Our team is coming off an okay week of training after spring break,” Hatter head Coach Mark Wilson said. "They are working well but not quite as together as we would like to see."
Both squads are coming off their March 8th Sprint against Temple and High Point on Lake Beresford and Coach Wilson is looking forward to another match-up with a well-seasoned team in Wesleyan this weekend.
"We are just looking for good weather and then a solid race this weekend,” Wilson said. “Then we want a good week prior to our race with conference rivals Jacksonville and Drake on March 22nd.”
Results and photos from this weekend will be posted after racing is complete, Saturday afternoon on gohatters.com
